Cormac Ainsheasccar macMuiredaith or Cormac the Restless was born in the early 16th c. in Wexford, Ireland. He is a sailor himself as well as the son of a sailor who was lost at sea when he was a boy. When he was aboard a trade ship, the vessel was besieged by a pirate ship off the coast of France- Barbary corsairs. He served as a galley slave but because of the skills he had learned as a sailor, he was given the choice to either convert to Islam and join the pirates or be sold as a slave in the markets of the Ottoman Empire. He chose to convert. Now he sails the Mediterranean with a crew of Barbary corsairs, raiding coastal towns for loot and slaves.
