i'm completely enthralled with bizarre victorian stuff - gothic horror, victorian-era medical oddities, funeral photography (think wisconsin death trip).

i adore medieval decor - but please, nothing cheesy.

i love pirate stuff, but usually only *historical* pirate stuff. i really don't like the cheesy pirate stuff.

i love to cook and bake. i'm very comfortable in my kitchen. i <3 aprons and sharp objects.

i'm also oddly in love with rockabilly/psychobilly stuff, especially cherries and zombies, respectively.

i love steampunk fashion - brass and pointy clock bits, cogs, stuff like that but no stupid miniature hats. goes back to my love of weird victorian stuff.

i adore and collect anything to do with h.p. lovecraft and the cthulhu mythos, particularly Miskatonic University stuff.

favorite book genres - high and dark fantasy, cyberpunk, hard science fiction, some vampire fiction (i hate twilight, however), alternate histories, some thrillers, horror

favorite flavors - milk chocolate, caramel, toffee, white chocolate, orange, rose, violet, cinnamon, clove

flavors i cannot or will not eat - egg (can't stand the smell or taste, but i'm not allergic or anything), dark chocolate, cilantro (with a few exceptions), black licorice, raw banana

you know, i absolutely love it when the word of the day is one i *don't* know... yeah, i know, i'm a geek.

*sigh* oh, how i wish....

garden 2011

last night i was thinking about what i wanted in my garden this spring. seems like i'll actually have 3 gardens - vegetable, herb, and flower. veggies i want - cucumber, lettuce, tomato, squash, zucchini, some kind of melon, strawberries, beets, onions, green onions, bell peppers, hot peppers, pumpkin, and turnips. maybe some cabbage. i'd like to grow broccoli, cauliflower, and carrots, but those don't do well in this soil. herbs - basil, chives, sage, lemon verbena, parsley, rosemary, thyme, oregano, spearmint, peppermint, catnip, dill, savory, sweet marjoram, anise, black cohosh, blue cohosh, chamomile, boneset, burdock, chickweed, coltsfoot, horehound, comfrey, damiana, dong quai, fenugreek, feverfew, garlic, lemongrass, licorice, lobelia, marshmallow, mugwort, mullein, mustard, nettle, pennyroyal, st. john's wort, seneca, shepherd's purse, valerian, vervain, wintergreen, wood betony, and woodruff. flowers - hyssop, english lavender, aloe, thistle (blessed and milk), golden marigold (calendula), cornflower, dandelion, coneflower (echinacea), goldenrod, goldenseal, hawthorn, hydrangea, juniper, lady's slipper, passion flower, periwinkle, red clover, safflower, violet, and yellow dock. now i've got to figure out which of those will grow in this area and which ones are kind of duplicates, function-wise.

i'd also like to start a stand of blackberries, blueberries, gooseberries, and raspberries. witch hazel, too.
